Cheryshev makes first start since return from injury

Less than a week on from his return to action in a 30 minute cameo against Sporting CP, Denis Cheryshev got a first starting role of the preseason against Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday. The Russian was part of a strong first XI fielded by Marcelino in preparation for the season ahead, operating on the left wing.
Close to the half hour mark, he combined well with Rodrigo to set up the striker for the opening goal of the game. With that, he was subbed off at half time, as part of a series of changes.
Cheryshev, who signed a permanent deal with Valencia CF earlier this summer, is likely to feature against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday in Germany, continuing his race to be 100% fit for the start of the LaLiga season.
